THE SKINNY ON THE ‘MOMMY MAKEOVER’

In 2015, an estimated 1.9 million women went under the knife for a new series of procedures to aid in the recovery of the transition to motherhood, otherwise known as the “Mommy Makeover.”

This new term is derived from the idea that mothers are looking for a body makeover in the form of surgical procedures to revamp and re-tighten their forms as they once were.

It is common following pregnancy for women to notice that their skin has lost some of its elastic quality.  They may begin to experience sagging skin in a variety of areas including the breast and abdominal region.  Even those who exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet can experience long lasting changes to their body.

The Mommy Makeover at the Philadelphia area’s Chapin Aesthetics is a combination of breast lift with possible augmentation, liposuction, and a tummy tuck.  These are the trouble spots for many women post childbirth, which can be improved significantly with these procedures.

One reason for the rise in requests for the body overhaul is Social Media.  So much information, before and after photos, and personal testimonials are available online that women often know exactly what they want before they even see me, or another surgeon. They get the inspiration they need to make the call after seeing so many other women have elected to have these procedures done.

Pregnancy can cause stubborn fat or loose, excess skin in your abdominal area that can cause you to feel frustrated about the look of your midsection.  Also, many times the abdominal muscles are permanently weakened and/or separated after pregnancy.  This procedure is designed to remove excess fat and skin in the abdominal region as well as tighten the abdominal muscles.  Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, can help you achieve a flatter, firmer, and tighter midsection that restores balance back to your body.

Many women also experience a loss of volume in their breast tissue and start to notice sagging in the breasts post pregnancy and/or nursing.  To best address the problem of breasts that have lost volume and begun to sag, I suggest the option of a breast lift in conjunction with breast augmentation.   This procedure is also known as augmentation mastopexy or breast lift with breast implants.  The breast tissue is lifted and tightened as in a traditional breast lift, but then an implant is inserted in order to restore volume and fullness to the breasts.  Often, this combination procedure can achieve more youthful and natural-looking results than breast lift surgery alone.

You can expect to take about two weeks off from work or from your daily routine.

Although some patients notice results immediately after surgery, it typically takes three to six months to see the full aesthetic results after the swelling subsides.
