Stubborn fat or loose, excess skin in your abdominal area can cause you to feel frustrated about the look of your midsection. Major weight loss, pregnancy or genetics may cause abdominal skin to lose elasticity and weaken or separate abdominal muscles. Abdominoplasty, also known as a Tummy Tuck, can help you achieve a flatter, firmer, and tighter midsection that brings balance back to your body. This procedure is designed to remove excess fat and skin in the abdominal region as well as tighten the abdominal wall.
Abdominoplasty can yield beautiful results in those who eat healthy and exercise regularly but are unable to eliminate stubborn belly fat or saggy abdominal skin. However, if you are pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or plan to lose or gain a substantial amount of weight you should postpone undergoing a tummy tuck procedure until afterwards.
Tummy Tuck Can
- Reduce stubborn abdominal fat that is resistant to diet and exercise
- Remove excess skin in the abdominal region
- Tighten and restore abdominal muscles and abdominal wall
- Firm and flatten the abdominal region
Our Customized Approach
Many times Dr. Scott D. Chapin suggests liposuction in conjunction with the tummy tuck procedure for optimal results. Liposuction would be performed first if elected to be part of the tummy tuck procedure. Next, a horizontal incision will be made across the lower abdomen. Through the incision, Dr. Chapin accesses and repairs weakened and separated abdominal muscles. Lastly, Dr. Chapin removes any excess skin and fat, re-drapes the remaining skin and repositions the naval before he closes the incision.
Day of Your Procedure
Your procedure will be performed under general anesthesia at a Bucks County or Montgomery County AAA Certified Facility. On the day of your procedure, Dr. Chapin and his highly trained team will meet with you to review all details and answer any questions before surgery. Generally, tummy tuck surgery takes about ninety minutes to perform. You will receive exceptional and comprehensive care following your procedure to ensure your comfort.
Tummy tuck is an outpatient procedure that will require you to have a driver to and from the surgical facility. In many cases, Dr. Chapin may recommend that you stay the first night following the procedure at a hospital to monitor your progress.
Immediately following tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Chapin or his staff will place a compression garment around your midsection to minimize swelling and offer added support as you heal. You will need to wear a compression garment for three weeks or as directed by Dr. Chapin. You may also notice that Dr. Chapin has placed a tiny tube under the skin to drain excess fluid from the area. Drainage tubes are temporary and will be removed approximately five days following surgery. Dr. Chapin will explain to you how to care for the treated area and will provide a prescription for pain medication to take if you experience any discomfort during your recovery.
Your abdominal area may feel tender, uncomfortable or numb for several days while your body heals. Although most patients notice dramatic results immediately after surgery, it typically takes three to six months to see the full aesthetic results after the swelling subsides.
You can expect to take about two weeks off from work. You should get plenty of rest and avoid any strenuous activity during that time. Dr. Chapin will provide complete preoperative and postoperative care instructions. He will monitor and advise when patients can gradually resume their daily activities including exercise.
