HOW TO LOOK “NORMAL” AFTER YOUR NOSE JOB

If you’ve grown up dissatisfied with some aspect of your nose and feeling self-conscious about the way you look in photos, a rhinoplasty (nose job) is the ideal way to alter its shape or size, as well as change its visual relationship to the rest of your facial features. Once you make the decision for the surgery, it’s natural to feel excited about the procedure and to anticipate being proud of showing off your re-sculpted nose. Until it fully heals, however, it’s completely understandable that you might not be ready to broadcast to the world that you’ve had “some work done.” Patients who are having a rhinoplasty at our Philadelphia-area Chapin Aesthetics can use the following tips to camouflage and otherwise minimize the early signs of recuperation and recovery if they’re not comfortable talking about it.

  • Cover Up

If you don’t like the way your nose cast or splint looks right after having a nose job, cover up by wrapping a scarf around your neck and wearing a hat or a veil to keep any attention off your nose. Wide-brimmed hats will also protect your nose from sun damage while your skin is healing. Although you can’t wear glasses right after a nose job, you can start wearing shades again once four weeks have passed or whenever Dr. Chapin gives you the OK.

  • Use Makeup

After having a nose job, it’s normal to notice dark bruising below your eyes for a while, as well as visible scars and temporary swelling. Each person has a different experience with post-procedure side effects. If the last thing you want is to have people staring at your nose, makeup can help you to make these signs of surgery less obvious.

  • Load Up on Supplements

Many doctors recommend taking supplements to keep bruising and swelling under control. Consider adding vitamins C and B, zinc, arnica, and bromelain to your daily intake for a few weeks before and after your nose surgery.

  • Transform Your Appearance in Other Ways

If you want to make sure that your friends and colleagues are less inclined to notice the “tweaks” you’ve had done, consider changing some other aspect of your appearance. Get a new hair color or style, or wear bolder, more dramatic lipstick so they focus on that change instead of your nose.
