Microneedling with PRP
SkinPen® and More in the Philadelphia Area
Promoting healing in the skin is a well-researched way to not just repair wounds, but to address a range of common cosmetic complaints. Both microneedling and PRP at the Philadelphia area’s Chapin Aesthetics stimulate growth of beneficial proteins and other molecules in the skin, accomplishing everything from reducing the appearance of blemishes to rejuvenating the surface for a healthier glow.
The Chapin Aesthetics team uses SkinPen® for microneedling, creating small injuries while minimizing damage to the cells. As these miniscule injuries heal, they improve the look of the surrounding skin as well. PRP, properly known as platelet-rich plasma, infuses the skin with healing elements drawn from your own blood. Each treatment is successful on its own, and even more effective when paired together.
Microneedling with PRP can treat:
- acne and surgical scars
- redness from melasma

What Goes Into a Customized Microneedling with PRP Treatment?
Microneedling involves your specialist moving the SkinPen® device over the skin to create hundreds of tiny channels. Each small pierce through the surface prompts an inflammatory response to clean out debris, disinfect the area, and improve blood flow, as well as triggers the creation of new tissue to repair the hole. This is known as “collagen induction therapy.” This new tissue features fresh, flexible collagen and connections to a nourishing network of blood vessels.
PRP requires the collection of a small amount of blood, which is rapidly spun in order to separate out the platelets. These are the cells that rush to wounds in order to begin the healing process when necessary. Once concentrated and injected back into an area in need of rejuvenation, they can encourage healing, as well as revitalization of skin and other cells.
The Day of Your Microneedling and PRP Treatment
Both microneedling and PRP treatments are performed in the Chapin Aesthetic office in Doylestown. The treatments do not take long, and the team is prepared to answer questions that come up the day of the session.
Microneedling and PRP Recovery
Since microneedling creates so many tiny channels in the skin, it can cause redness that lasts for a day or two. After this, a rejuvenated look—and reduction in the severity of acne scars and other blemishes—will be increasingly apparent. Many patients find that they achieve their ideal results after three sessions, each spaced roughly a month apart. This routine can result in an improved appearance for about six months.
PRP injections can cause slight swelling and redness at the collection and injection sites, but these effects should go away in hours.
Patients typically find that they can resume their normal routine within a day of their treatment.
