WHICH FEATURES OF THE LIPS CAN FILLER IMPROVE?

Whether you have naturally thin lips and want to make them poutier or perhaps want to counteract the unpleasant effects of aging, we recommend hyaluronic acid lip filler. Our Philadelphia-area team uses JUVEDERM® Ultra XC and Restylane® Silk for augmentation. But these fillers can do more than simply make lips plumper and fuller. They can also treat wrinkles around the lips, reshape them, restore symmetry, counteract dryness, or add subtle embellishments.

Our experienced injectors understand facial anatomy and how various features relate to the lips, so we are able to add filler to the right areas for achieving the look you want. Here are some common lip areas treated with filler:

VERMILLION

The most well-known use of lip fillers is for enlarging the upper and lower lips themselves. These reddish sections are known as the vermillion. Fillers help to restore both height and volume, as well as plump up a smile that has always been thin.

VERTICAL LIP LINES

Smoker’s lines on the delicate skin bordering the mouth (also referred to as lipstick lines) can be softened with thin fillers like Restylane® Silk. This product is also good for reducing the severity of other creases that develop, including smile lines and marionette lines, as well as improving the look of the corners of the mouth.

VERMILLION BORDER

The vermillion border is the sharp ridge around the lip line that separates the lips from the surrounding facial skin. Smoking, excessive movement, and aging can cause the structure of this defining line to be lost.

CUPID’S BOW

Some injectors use a technique for enhancing a double curve at the center of the upper lip, known as the Cupid’s Bow. A beautifully distinct, archer’s bow-like shape in this area is considered to be a highly attractive and desirable feature. Sometimes due to aging, the natural shape is lost, or it may have never been defined in the first place. Injectors can sculpt this feature by using a small amount of filler to lift it.

NASOLABIAL FOLDS

While not a part of the lips, nasolabial folds are creases that extend from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. They affect your overall lower facial appearance and often become more pronounced with age. JUVEDERM® Ultra XC and other similar products address these lines, giving the entire area (and face) a more youthful look.
