It is not uncommon to struggle with stubborn pockets of fat despite an active lifestyle and healthy diet.  These persisting fat deposits can accumulate almost anywhere on the body including the hips, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, back, upper arms, neck and chin.  These areas that are resistant to diet and exercise can be extremely frustrating for those who make a healthy lifestyle a priority in their life.

Liposuction Can:

  • Eliminate stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise
  • Restore the contour in areas with persistent fat deposits
  • Rectify regions that are negatively impacted by weight loss and pregnancy
  • Refine appearance of the chin, neck and lower face area
  • Create a tighter, firmer and more shapely figure

Our Customized Approach
To maximize results liposuction is commonly performed in conjunction with other procedures such as a tummy tuck, breast augmentation or a mommy makeover.  During your consultation Dr. Scott D. Chapin will listen to your concerns and recommend the best treatment plan to meet your aesthetic goals.

Dr. Chapin offers a range of liposuction techniques and will recommend a treatment plan based on individual factors such as the patient’s unique anatomy and cosmetic concerns for liposuction surgery.  When appropriate, Dr. Chapin uses tumescent local anesthesia during the surgical procedure to facilitate fat removal and to minimize bleeding as well as the risks related to general anesthesia.  He may also employ laser energy (i.e., Smart Lipo) to remove fat and help tighten skin during liposuction.

Dr. Chapin will first inject the tumescent solution comprised of saline solution (sterile saltwater), epinephrine (to contract blood vessels, restricting blood loss) and lidocaine (a local anesthetic) into the targeted area.  This causes the area to swell and become firm, allowing Dr. Chapin to remove fat more precisely.  A discrete location is chosen within the targeted area for a miniscule incision to be made.  A cannula (a small, hollow tube) is inserted through the incision, which will be utilized to suction out excess fat.  When Dr. Chapin has completed the liposuction procedure, he dresses the treated area(s) with bandages and may wrap the area in a compression garment to minimize swelling.  Any incisions will heal on their own without the need for stitches.

Day of Your Procedure
Your procedure will be performed either in our office facility, as an outpatient procedure, or under general anesthesia at a Bucks County or Montgomery County AAAA Certified Facility.  The choice of facility will depend on whether you are having liposuction performed as a single treatment or in conjunction with other procedures.  On the day of your procedure, Dr. Chapin and his highly trained team will meet with you to review all the details and answer any questions prior to the procedure.  Generally, liposuction takes about an hour to three hours to perform depending on the technique used and how many areas are being treated.  You will receive exceptional and comprehensive care following your procedure to ensure your comfort.

Liposuction Recovery
Patients are typically discharged an hour or so after surgery and require a driver to and from the facility.  The treated area may be tender, sore or numb immediately following the liposuction procedure.  Some patients may experience fluid drainage from the incision site(s) for about twelve hours post-procedure.  Generally, it takes four weeks for pain, swelling and bruising to subside with final results apparent at three to six months following the procedure.  We recommend patients allow three to five days from work and to avoid any strenuous activity including exercise for a minimum of three weeks.  Dr. Chapin will provide complete preoperative and postoperative care instructions.  He will monitor and advise when patients can gradually resume their daily activities including exercise.
