Male Lower Body Lift Philadelphia

Although men are typically less inclined to discuss their plastic surgery experiences than women are, it is becoming increasingly popular for them to pursue cosmetic surgical procedures. At Chapin Aesthetics in Doylestown, one procedure that men frequently request is lower body lift surgery, sometimes referred to as trunk lift surgery.

Lower body lift surgery for men is actually comprised of one or more body contouring procedures designed to eliminate sagging excess skin and stubborn fat from the abdominal area or lower back area, or both. In addition to performing abdominoplasty (“tummy tuck” surgery) and a lower-back contouring procedure, Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. Scott Chapin can also include thigh and buttock lift surgery to sculpt the entire lower body simultaneously.

Dr. Chapin has extensive experience in body contouring plastic surgery for men. He has helped countless Doylestown, Bucks County and Montgomery County male plastic surgery patients attain a more balanced midsection while retaining a masculine look.

Am I a Candidate for Lower Body Lift for Men?

Only an experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. Chapin can properly determine if you are an appropriate candidate for male trunk lift, or lower body lift, surgery. For example, lower body lift surgery is only intended for men with poor skin elasticity leading to loose, sagging skin. Some men may have unwanted fat throughout the lower body, but if they have suitable skin elasticity, they may be more appropriate candidates for liposuction rather than trunk lift surgery. Nonetheless, appropriate candidates for male lower body lift surgery commonly include men who:

  • Have loose, drooping skin and possibly excess fat throughout the abdominal area, the lower back, and perhaps the thighs and buttock area, due to aging, massive weight loss or hereditary factors
  • Are in sufficiently good physical and mental health to undergo a surgical procedure
  • Are non-smokers or are prepared to quit smoking a few months before and after trunk lift surgery
  • Have sensible expectations for the aesthetic outcome of surgery

What Is Involved in Lower Body Lift for Men?

Dr. Chapin performs body lift surgery for men as an outpatient procedure. General anesthesia is administered before the plastic surgeon begins the procedure so the patient is comfortable throughout surgery. Dr. Chapin takes about four hours to complete trunk lift surgery, depending on the complexity of the patient’s situation and how many body contouring procedures are included.

To start trunk lift surgery, Dr. Chapin creates a continuous incision that encircles the lower abdomen and lower back (i.e., the trunk region). He places the incision in an area that can be concealed by the underwear or swimsuit line. He can usually use the same incision to contour several areas of the lower body at once, including the abdomen, lower back (“love handles”), upper thighs and buttock region. The Philadelphia plastic surgeon then excises any loose excess skin. If stubborn pockets of fat need to be removed from under the skin, he performs liposuction next. Subsequently, Dr. Chapin repairs the underlying supportive tissue if necessary. He may use internal sutures to hold the newly restored tissue in place. To finish the procedure, Dr. Chapin pulls the remaining skin taut prior to closing the incision with sutures or surgical adhesive. When the plastic surgeon has completed trunk lift surgery, he dresses the treated area with bandages and possibly compression garments to minimize postsurgical inflammation, or swelling.

What Is the Recovery Period for Lower Body Lift for Men?

Immediately following trunk lift surgery, patients are taken to a recovery room to rest while the effects of anesthesia subside. They are then released into the care of an authorized adult. Rarely, Dr. Chapin may require patients to spend the first night following surgery at a medical center, so a nurse or healthcare provider can monitor their progress.

In the first five or so days following trunk lift surgery, men may experience bruising, swelling, tenderness, numbness or pain in the treated area. However, these are normal symptoms that should gradually taper off. Dr. Chapin will recommend oral pain relievers that can help alleviate any initial postsurgical pain or discomfort.

Trunk lift patients should plan to take about two weeks off from work or their customary routine. In order to encourage proper healing and optimize the aesthetic results from surgery, men who have undergone lower body lift should rest as much as possible, avoid any rigorous activity during this phase of recovery, and closely follow all of Dr. Chapin’s pre- and post-surgical instructions.
