MOMMY MAKEOVER
Body Restoration After Childbirth for the Philadelphia Area
Often, after pregnancy, women begin to notice some changes to their bodies: Their skin might have lost some of its elastic quality, or they may begin to experience sagging in a variety of areas. Even women who exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet can experience long-lasting changes to their bodies, which is why Dr. Scott D. Chapin offers Mommy Makeovers in the Philadelphia area.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A MOMMY MAKEOVER?
A Mommy Makeover allows patients to address several cosmetic issues simultaneously. Patients can choose the ideal combination of procedures based on their unique condition and aesthetic goals.
A Mommy Makeover can:
- Remove stubborn fat and skin in the abdomen region, hips, thighs, and breasts
- Tighten and restore abdominal muscles
- Firm and flatten the abdominal region
- Restore the appearance of the breasts
- Increase your confidence and self esteem
- Create a sleeker and more contoured figure
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR MOMMY MAKEOVER SURGERY?
Patients who are younger and who have strong, elastic skin are likely to get the most satisfying results from a Mommy Makeover. If you did breastfeed or are currently breastfeeding, it’s recommended that you wait until at least six months after weaning your baby. This will give your body enough time to recover and return to its normal state. Doing so will to also give you time to get as close to your pre-baby weight as possible.
Patients who aren’t new or recent mothers and who want to restore their youthful bodies can still be good candidates for a Mommy Makeover. Anyone considering a Mommy Makeover procedure should ideally be in good health, be at or close to their goal body weight, maintain a positive outlook and realistic expectations, and should be finished with having children. New pregnancy can alter the results of the procedures by stretching out skin and causing pockets of fat to grow larger and accumulate.
OUR CUSTOMIZED APPROACH TO THE MOMMY MAKEOVER
A Mommy Makeover is a combination of surgical procedures designed to address multiple body contouring concerns associated with pregnancy and nursing. Most commonly, Mommy Makeovers include abdominoplasty (also known a tummy tuck) and breast surgery—typically a breast lift with or without breast augmentation. Other surgical procedures—such as liposuction or thigh lift surgery—may also be recommended as part of a Mommy Makeover procedure. Dr. Chapin will develop a customized plan to meet your individual aesthetics goals.
Meet Dr. Scott Chapin
Dr. Scott D. Chapin blends medical science, artistry, and humanity in every procedure he performs. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, he specializes in aesthetic surgery, with a particular focus on breast surgery. His national reputation and commitment to excellence make him a top choice for Doylestown and beyond.
The tummy tuck is designed to remove excess fat and skin in the abdominal region, as well as tighten the abdominal muscles. This is because pregnancy can result in stubborn fat or loose, excess skin that can cause you to feel frustrated about the look of your midsection. The abdominal muscles are often weakened and/or become separated after pregnancy. Therefore, abdominoplasty can help you achieve a flatter, firmer, and tighter midsection that restores balance back to your body.
Many women also experience a loss of volume in their breast tissue and start to notice sagging of the breasts following pregnancy and/or nursing. To address sagging breasts that have lost volume, Dr. Chapin offers his Mommy Makeover patients the option of a lift in conjunction with augmentation. This procedure is also known as augmentation mastopexy. The breast tissue is lifted and tightened as in a traditional breast lift, and an implant is inserted in order to restore volume and fullness to the breasts. A Mommy Makeover can often yield more youthful and natural-looking results than a lift alone.
There are several different variables that will be decided for the implants, including size, shape, style, and projection. Dr. Chapin will also determine the best insertion point where incisions will be made, as well as the placement of the implants above or below the muscle in the chest wall.
Liposuction is the surgical removal of fat, suctioned out where necessary, through a thin cannula that is inserted through a small incision. Liposuction can be performed on the belly, back, arms, thighs, buttocks, and virtually anywhere on the body where a significant amount of fat creates unwanted bulges.
HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MOMMY MAKEOVER?
Patients who are thinking about having a Mommy Makeover should take their overall health and how much time has passed since having their baby into consideration. Prior to having a Mommy Makeover, Dr. Chapin may recommend that a patient get lab testing or a medical evaluation in order to ensure it is as safe as possible.
He will also recommend that Mommy Makeover patients quit smoking and either refrain from taking certain medications or adjust how they’re taking them. It’s best to avoid blood thinners like aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain herbal supplements that increase the chance of bleeding and bruising—as long as a primary care physician agrees that it is medically safe to do so.
THE DAY OF YOUR MOMMY MAKEOVER PROCEDURE
Dr. Chapin performs Mommy Makeover surgeries at Bucks County or Montgomery County AAA-certified facilities. His team will join him on the day of your procedure in order to go over Mommy Makeover steps and other necessary information, as well as provide any final answers before the procedure begins.
Patients are under a general anesthetic throughout the duration of the Mommy Makeover, which typically takes about three to four hours to perform. Note that the time can vary based on the complexity of the
unique situation and which plastic surgery procedures have been selected for inclusion.
Dr. Chapin ensures post-procedural care and support to keep you comfortable as you begin your recovery process.
WHAT WILL RECOVERY AND AFTERCARE BE LIKE AFTER A MOMMY MAKEOVER?
A Mommy Makeover may require you to stay the first night following the procedure at a hospital to monitor your progress. You may notice bandages, compression garments, and drainage tubes after a Mommy Makeover. Gauze or bandages will be applied to the incisions. The tubes help keep fluid from accumulating under the skin and will be removed one or five days after surgery. Wearing a compression garment reduces swelling and offers added support.
The treated areas may be red, swollen, or bruised and may also feel tender, uncomfortable, or numb for several days while your body heals. These symptoms are normal and will subside with time. Oral pain medication can help alleviate any discomfort or pain you may experience. Your post-Mommy Makeover body shape will also gradually improve as the swelling goes down and your body heals.
Mommy Makeover patients should expect to take about two weeks off from work or from their daily routines. Ample rest is critical, as is avoiding any strenuous activity during the recovery time. Preoperative and postoperative care instructions will be provided, and Dr. Chapin will monitor patients and advise them as to when they can return to their daily routines and more strenuous physical activity. It’s important to continue to follow Dr. Chapin’s instructions and attend any follow-up appointments that may be scheduled.
