BOTOX®
Reduce The Appearance Of Forehead Lines, Crow’s Feet, And Other Wrinkles Without Surgery In The Philadelphia Area
Repeated movements and muscle contractions can cause facial lines and wrinkles to form, even in young adults. BOTOX® at the Philadelphia area’s Chapin Aesthetics is specifically designed to temporarily prevent the facial muscle contractions that cause these signs of aging to appear and grow in severity. As an injectable treatment, BOTOX® is a simple, non-surgical method for creating a more youthful appearance. Dr. Scott D. Chapin and his certified aesthetic nurse specialists can use it to address facial cosmetic concerns such as fine lines and wrinkles between the eyebrows and across the forehead, frown lines, and
crow’s feet.
The Chapin Aesthetics team is committed to producing natural-looking results that do not appear overdone or give the dreaded “frozen” look. Many patients see visible improvements within three to five days of their BOTOX® treatment, and the results can last up to three months. There is little to no downtime, which allows patients to continue with their daily activities right after their BOTOX® treatment session.
BOTOX® can:
- Reduce the appearance of facial fine lines and wrinkles
- Help prevent future fine lines and wrinkles from developing
- Provide a rejuvenated and smoother look to the skin

WHAT IS BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a minimally invasive injectable cosmetic treatment that can reduce signs of aging on the face. It contains a chemical called botulinum toxin, which is derived from a bacterium found naturally in the environment, known as Clostridium botulinum.
When injected into specific muscles, the diluted and purified neurotoxin interferes with nerve signals so that the facial muscles in the treatment area can’t tense up. By “freezing” the wrinkle-causing facial muscles—in other words, keeping them at rest—BOTOX® creates a smoother, more refreshed, and more youthful-looking complexion.
WHICH AREAS CAN BOTOX® INJECTIONS TARGET?
BOTOX® is the first and only injectable treatment that’s FDA approved to temporarily improve three different cosmetic issues: moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines), forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
These lines are all known as dynamic wrinkles, which develop because of repetitive facial expressions.
Dynamic wrinkles form in the areas where the skin creases up whenever you smile, frown, raise your eyebrows, squint, or make other expressions. They are often the earliest signs of aging to appear on the face and are mostly visible when the face is in motion, but they can eventually become more pronounced and noticeable at all times.
These wrinkles can make give the face a tired and angry appearance or cause you to look older than you actually are. Since these lines develop on the forehead and near the eyes, BOTOX® is primarily used on the upper third of the face.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX®?
Anyone over the age of 18 who has the goal of addressing fine lines and wrinkles caused by muscle contractions may be a good candidate for botulinum toxin injections. BOTOX® injections are best for patients who may not be ready for surgical anti-aging treatments, who do not have any medical conditions that affect the muscles, and who do not have any known allergies to the ingredients in the medication. Patients who are in good physical and psychological health and are not pregnant or breastfeeding may be good candidates for BOTOX®.
PREPARATION FOR BOTOX® INJECTIONS
Not much preparation is required for this quick and almost completely painless procedure, but there are a few precautions patients should take in the days leading up to BOTOX® injections. With any cosmetic injectable treatment, you’ll bruise less if you discontinue blood thinners or any other medications that would make bruising and bleeding worse. Similarly, alcohol and any other supplements that cause the blood to thin will need to be avoided for around a week before the BOTOX® appointment to lower the risk of bruising.

The Day of Your BOTOX® Treatment
Your injector will use a fine needle to strategically inject targeted areas with BOTOX® during the treatment session. Although the injections are usually simple and straightforward, getting BOTOX® done right is both an art and a science. Placement and precision are key, which is just one reason it is vital to choose an experienced BOTOX® provider, like the injectors at Chapin Aesthetics.
One of the main benefits of this cosmetic treatment is how quickly it can be administered. Depending on the number of areas being treated, the injection process usually does not last more than 15 minutes. Due to how quick and simple BOTOX® injections are, patients find it incredibly easy to accommodate them in their schedule.
BOTOX® RESULTS, SIDE EFFECTS, AND RECOVERY
BOTOX® requires little to no downtime, so regular, daily activities can be resumed right away following a treatment. Patients who experience discomfort in the treated area can use ice to alleviate it. Patients may rarely experience mild redness or swelling at the injection site, and those who do see these side effects typically find that these symptoms resolve quickly on their own. Try to avoid massaging the treatment area, since the pressure can cause the botulinum toxin to migrate to another area of the face and reduce its effectiveness.
Results can be expected to appear in around seven to ten days. The muscles should stay relaxed for roughly three to four months on average. Eventually, contractions return as normal as the botulinum toxin is metabolized, so maintenance injections can be employed to preserve the effects.
The longevity of the results depends on several factors including how long it takes for the patient’s body to metabolize the medication.
