FACELIFT / NECK LIFT

Address Sagging, Chafing, and More in the Philadelphia Area

As the years go by, the visible signs of facial aging that can appear include wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, and jowly cheeks. Rhytidectomy, more commonly known as a facelift at the Philadelphia area’s Chapin Aesthetics, can “set back the clock” when it comes to this evidence of the passage of time, whether caused by sun exposure, stress, genetics, the natural aging process, or some combination of all of these. The closely related neck lift also serves to address lax tissue in the facial area, making for a balanced and overall rejuvenated look.

The premise behind both facelift and neck lift surgery is simple: Excess skin is removed, while the remaining underlying muscle layer is sculpted and tightened to create more youthful contours. Dr. Scott D. Chapin often recommends that facelift surgery be paired with other complementary services to ensure all areas of the face showing signs of aging get the necessary attention. This way, no particular feature will appear isolated because it does not match the look of the rest of the face.

Our Customized Approach to Facelift and Neck Lift Surgery

Either of these procedures, whether separate or combined, may be performed on an outpatient basis with general anesthesia or may require an overnight stay at Doylestown Hospital. For a facelift, Dr. Chapin will make discreet incisions along the hairline and around both ears, which will help to camouflage any scars. He may also extend the incisions to the scalp if necessary. Through the incisions, he will reposition displaced fat, tighten muscles, and remove excess skin and fat. Lastly, he will re-drape the skin so that it sits more tightly over the underlying structure, close the incisions, and place surgical dressings around the face. A neck lift involves similar details as a facelift, with the incisions often made below the chin.

The Day of Your Procedure

Dr. Chapin will work with his team to make the day of your facelift or neck lift surgery run as smoothly as possible. This includes going over the procedure details and answering any last-minute questions you may have. While the timeline depends on details unique to your specific facelift procedure or procedures, the surgery itself typically takes about an hour to perform. Dr. Chapin’s patients also enjoy exceptional and comprehensive follow-up care.

Facelift and Neck Lift Recovery

It is essential to keep your head elevated at all times without bending, lifting, or engaging in strenuous activities for three to five days following your facelift procedure. Oral pain medication will be prescribed to alleviate discomfort.

Dr. Chapin will remove your stitches anywhere from three to seven days after surgery and will provide complete preoperative and postoperative care instructions. As he monitors your recovery, he will recommend when a gradual resumption of typical daily activities, and especially exercise, can begin. The best approach is to listen to your body and not force yourself to return to everyday life before you are ready. Generally, patients are able to go back to work or their routine within 10 to 14 days, depending on the extent of the facelift and related surgeries.

Many procedures are available to rejuvenate and contour other areas of the face, including eyelid surgery, brow lift, facial implants, fat injection, and rhinoplasty.
