Phenol Peel Philadelphia
The phenol peel is a powerful chemical peel that is utilized as a skin resurfacing technique to remove the outer layers of the facial skin. This peel penetrates deep into the skin to allow new, healthier skin to emerge. A phenol peel is often recommended to treat the signs of severely sun-damaged and rough textured facial skin. Pigment concerns can be corrected including hyperpigmentation, age-related brown spots, and blotchiness. Fine lines, wrinkles and even profound facial creases can be significantly reduced with a phenol peel treatment. Phenol is particularly useful for improving the crepe wrinkled skin below the lower eyelids or for minimizing the vertical lines that often form around the mouth as a result of aging. A more youthful, rejuvenated appearance of the skin can be achieved with a phenol peel.
Phenol Peel Can:
- Smooth out rough, wrinkled and sun-damaged skin
- Reduce hyperpigmentation (brown spots) and even out skin tone
- Diminish lines and wrinkles around the eyes commonly known as “crow’s feet”
- Decrease lines and wrinkles around the mouth
- Remove certain precancerous skin growths
- Minimize the appearance of facial scars
Our Customized Approach
During your consultation Dr. Scott D. Chapin will carefully listen to all of your cosmetic concerns. Dr. Chapin will study the condition of your facial skin and he will provide procedure recommendations that are best suited to address your individual needs. It is common for phenol peels to be performed in conjunction with other procedures such as facelift surgery, eyelid surgery and brow procedures to achieve optimal results.
Day of Your Procedure
Your procedure can be performed as an outpatient procedure at our Doylestown office or under general anesthesia at a Bucks County or Montgomery County AAA Certified Facility. Generally, a phenol peel treatment takes one to two hours to perform. The location and length of the procedure will be determined by how many procedures, if any, have been elected to be performed simultaneously. On the day of your procedure, Dr. Chapin and his highly trained team will meet with you to review all details and answer any questions before surgery. You will receive exceptional and comprehensive care following your procedure to ensure your comfort.
Phenol Peel Recovery
For the first five to seven days post treatment, your skin will be dry, red and flaky. It is common to experience stinging and/or tightness. An ointment such as Aquaphor will be administered to the area for comfort and to promote healing. After the peeling subsides the redness may be present for about four to six weeks, but this can easily be camouflaged with makeup. These side effects will gradually subside. Generally, at the two-week mark you will begin to see the results of your treatment and they will continue to improve. If you experience any post-operative discomfort, Dr. Chapin will prescribe oral pain medication for relief. You should rest and relax during your recovery, avoiding any strenuous activities. Dr. Chapin will provide complete preoperative and postoperative care instructions. He will monitor and advise when patients can gradually resume their daily activities including exercise.
