Am I an Ideal Candidate for Philadelphia Rhinoplasty?

Generally, good candidates for rhinoplasty are in good physical and mental health. These candidates are looking to address aesthetic concerns to enhance the appearance of their nose or correct functional concerns to improve breathing.

Generally, Dr. Chapin suggests Doylestown rhinoplasty candidates should:

Preparing for Rhinoplasty

As Dr. Chapin customizes each rhinoplasty procedure to achieve optimal results for all patients, each procedure will be unique. Here are some common steps to expect.

Select an experienced, board-certified, and well-regarded plastic surgeon. Schedule consultations with a few surgeons to ensure you find the best match. During your consultations, request to see before-and-after photos to get an idea of the results your surgeon achieves.

During your consultation, you may be advised to get medical evaluations, blood work, or other tests to assess your overall health. At this time, you will also be instructed regarding your medications.

If you currently smoke, vape, or use any nicotine products, you should quit. For at least four weeks prior to surgery and until recovery is complete, it is strongly recommended you avoid all nicotine products as they can cause complications, delay recovery, and impact results.

For two weeks prior to your surgery, refrain from taking blood thinning medications, anti-inflammatory drugs, or herbal supplements that may cause additional bleeding.

Don’t crash diet or change your diet significantly prior to surgery. However, eat healthy and balanced meals prior to your procedure as proper nutrition supports healing.

Prepare for your recovery by purchasing the supplies you’ll need and filling pain medication prescriptions. Consider cooking and freezing meals for easy preparation. Arrange a clean and comfortable space to rest. Also, plan for a responsible adult to drive you home following your procedure and stay with you for at least 24 hours.

Rhinoplasty Procedure Overview

Dr. Chapin performs all rhinoplasty procedures in a Bucks County or Montgomery County AAAASF-certified cosmetic surgery facility. The day of your nose job, you’ll arrive approximately an hour before your scheduled surgery to meet with Dr. Chapin and your anesthesia provider. Dr. Chapin and his team will review the surgery details and answer any final questions, then you will be administered anesthesia.

During your consultation, Dr. Chapin will determine whether an open or closed approach is necessary for your rhinoplasty.

Open Rhinoplasty—A small incision is made in the columella, the strip of skin separating the nostrils. The external incision is well-concealed and will be virtually invisible when healed.

Closed Rhinoplasty—In this technique, the incisions are made inside the nostrils and are not visible following the procedure.

Dr. Chapin will make the necessary surgical alterations to sculpt the underlying structures of the nose, including:

Following the surgical alterations, Dr. Chapin will drape the skin over the restructured framework, close the incisions, and place dressings around the nose. Rhinoplasty procedures typically take 3 to 4 hours, depending on your procedural plan.

Rhinoplasty Recovery and Healing

Following your rhinoplasty procedure, you may experience pressure or discomfort for up to 3 to 5 days. You should expect bruising and swelling. While initial swelling will take 2 to 3 weeks to resolve, residual swelling may last up to a year. For the first 3 to 5 days, keep your head elevated without bending, lifting, or engaging in any strenuous activities to minimize swelling and bruising. In 3 to 7 days, Dr. Chapin will remove splints and provide instructions for optimal rhinoplasty recovery.

Plan to take at least 1 week off from work. Generally, patients can resume sedentary work in 3 to 5 days. For patients who have physically demanding jobs, you may need a longer recovery time or to request restricted duties. Patients can resume most normal activities at 2 to 4 weeks following surgery, including light workouts. Strenuous exercise can be resumed within three to four weeks following rhinoplasty. During your follow-up appointments with Dr. Chapin, he will advise you as to when you may resume all activities.

How Soon Will I See My Rhinoplasty Results?

Your healing process will be determined by the extent of your Philadelphia rhinoplasty. Typically, internal and external splints are removed after 4-7 days. For 1 to 2 weeks, you can expect swelling and bruising in the upper face that may obscure your results. Residual swelling may persist for 3 to 6 months and may take a year to resolve.

With optimal results and thorough follow-up care, your rhinoplasty results will permanently provide an enhanced appearance to your nose and balance facial features. However, your skin will continue to age, so maintaining a healthy skincare regimen and avoiding sun exposure will help ensure your long-lasting results.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

As rhinoplasty procedures are highly customizable, costs will vary by patient and greatly depend on the extent of the procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Chapin will determine the scope and cost of your Philadelphia rhinoplasty.
