Blepharoplasty | Eyelid Lift in Philadelphia, PA
The early signs of aging can show themselves in many ways. Due to the delicate skin that surrounds the eyes, the eyelids are typically the first place to show age. Fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging upper and lower eyelids can dramatically impact the overall appearance of the face, creating a tired, sad, or even angry look. However, eyelid surgery can help rejuvenate your youthful appearance and even improve functional issues that may be impairing your vision.
Eyelid surgery is one of the most effective methods of restoring the signs of facial aging for a refreshed and more alert appearance. At Chapin Aesthetics, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Scott D. Chapin aims to help you enhance your appearance and achieve your aesthetic goals with natural-looking results, making him your choice as the best eyelid lift surgeon in Doylestown, PA.

What Is an Eyelid Lift?
An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fatty tissues from the upper eyelids and lower eyelids. Eyelid lifts can help restore a refreshed, more alert-looking appearance, and they also address functional concerns of drooping eyelids that can impair vision.
Generally, patients have three options for eyelid surgery: upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both. Typically, upper eyelid surgeries are performed under local anesthesia in the office, whereas lower eyelid and combined procedures are generally performed in an outpatient surgical center.
As each patient’s needs are unique, Dr. Chapin will customize the best approach to achieve optimal results, including:
- Brighter, alert eyes and overall appearance
- Tighten loose, wrinkled eyelids
- Remove fat deposits around the eye
- Decrease appearance of under eye fullness
- Smooth lines and wrinkles around the eye area
- Lift the eyelid skin to correct vision impairment
- Repair natural contours
- Restore a rejuvenated facial appearance

Preparing for Blepharoplasty
Dr. Chapin customizes each eyelid lift procedure to achieve optimal results for each patient, so each procedure will be unique. Here are some common steps to expect.
Select an experienced, board-certified, and well-regarded plastic surgeon. During your consultations, request to see before-and-after photos to get an idea of the results your surgeon achieves.
You may be advised to get medical evaluations, blood work, or other tests to assess your overall health. At this time, you will also be instructed regarding your medications.
If you currently smoke, vape, or use any nicotine products, you should quit. For at least four weeks prior to surgery and until recovery is complete, it is strongly recommended you avoid all nicotine products as they can cause complications, delay recovery, and impact results.
For two weeks prior to your surgery, refrain from taking blood thinning medications, anti-inflammatory drugs, or herbal supplements that may cause additional bleeding.
Don’t crash diet or change your diet significantly prior to surgery. However, eat healthy and balanced meals prior to your procedure as proper nutrition supports healing.
Prepare for your recovery by purchasing the supplies you’ll need and filling pain medication prescriptions. Consider cooking and freezing meals for easy preparation. Arrange a clean and comfortable space to rest. Also, plan for a responsible adult to drive you home following your procedure and stay with you for at least 24 hours.

Eyelid Lift Procedure Overview
Dr. Chapin performs most blepharoplasty procedures in a Bucks County or Montgomery County AAAASF-certified cosmetic surgery facility. In certain cases, upper eyelid procedures can be performed in the office setting.
The day of your eyelid lift, you’ll arrive approximately an hour before your scheduled surgery to meet with Dr. Chapin and your anesthesia provider. Dr. Chapin and his team will review the surgery details and answer any final questions, then you will be administered anesthesia.
During upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Chapin will create a well-concealed incision on the natural crease of each eyelid. Then, excess skin, fat, and tissue will be removed to tighten and smooth the upper eyelid. The incision will be closed with sutures. Incision site scarring will be virtually invisible when healed.
For lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Chapin will create an incision inside the lower eyelid. Then, excess skin, fat, and tissue will be removed from the lower eyelid region. The incision will then be closed with sutures. To improve the appearance of crepey lower eyelid skin, a TCA peel or laser treatment may be added to the lower eyelid surgery. Scarring in this area is virtually invisible when healed.
Depending on your procedural plan, eyelid lifts typically take 2 hours.
Doylestown, PA Eyelid Surgery Recovery and Healing
Following your eyelid lift surgery, you may experience swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort around the eyes. These side effects should gradually improve over the next 2 weeks. For the first few days, keep your head elevated and avoid bending, lifting, or engaging in any strenuous activities to minimize swelling and bruising. While the procedure is not typically painful, Dr. Chapin will prescribe pain medication to alleviate any discomfort.
Depending on the extent of your blepharoplasty, plan to take 1off work. Most patients can return to work within 7 days; even soon if patients have the ability to work remotely. However, for the next 2 weeks, you should avoid strenuous activities and high-impact exercise.
How Soon Will I See My Eyelid Surgery Results?
Following your eyelid lift surgery, you may experience pain, swelling, and significant bruising. These effects typically cause at least 1 week of social downtime. However, as bruising and swelling dissipates during this time, your results will reveal smoother, younger looking eyes, and a more alert appearance.
Until your eyes are fully healed, sun protection is crucial. Wear dark sunglasses when sun exposure is unavoidable. With optimal results, thorough follow-up care, and proper skincare and sun protection, your blepharoplasty results will provide a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance for several years.
